Gasworks Cave, Wemyss Caves, Fife

This cave was discovered in 1860, when workmen were sinking a tank for the gasometer. Professor Simpson reported:- 'there are no markings in this cave, but there is a bench-like seam of rock as in Jonathon's Cave. At the end of the bench is a mortar or globular form in which traces of grain were found when discovered'. A large rock fall took place in 1959 which covered this bench and mortar. There are a number of 'holdfasts' in this cave.
